Bulletproof Coffee

If you follow a lot of health groups or have a lot of health conscious friends you may have heard of Bulletproof coffee.    It's basically coffee with interesting additives like grass fed organic butter and coconut oil.  Supporters promote that it's a great breakfast replacement that curbs hunger, helps you lose weight and increases mental clarity.  Oh, and did we mention everyone thinks it's delicious?

Really butter in a hot beverage is nothing new.  Actually buttered tea and coffee are nothing new in fact this is a common beverage around the globe.  I've posted a great recipe below for this tasty brew.

I'm sure you're thinking this coffee has a lot of fat in it and how can that be good?  Well apparently there are a number of reasons to enjoy bulletproof coffee.   Butter is actually pretty healthy.  It's definitely better for you than the "I can't believe it's not" products.  Butter is full of fat soluble vitamins, CLA, and butyric acid.  This means improvements in cardiovascular health, brain function and endocrine help and don't forget body composition.  The reason they recommend the grass-fed butter is it's very rick in all of the above elements as well as omega 3 fatty acids that are an amazing anti-inflammatory.

Next you add in MCT (medium-chain triglyceride) oil (fancy word the type of fat coconut oil is).  This type of oil has shown to enhance fat metabolism and the body uses it as energy rather than storing it.  It may also be good for brain function.

It's not only important to have quality ingredients but to have a good blender to combine the ingredients.  It's suggested to make the coffee first then combine it with the butter and oil in the blender.  You can also add things like natural sweeteners, dark chocolate, cacao powder or even cinnamon.

I have not tried Bulletproof coffee yet. I plan to go get the ingredients soon so I can give it a try.Once I do I'll take some lovely pictures and let you know how it turned out.
