Tiny House Movement

I'm absolutely fascinated by the Tiny House Movement. I love the idea of living a more simple life with less distractions and less bills. If you haven't heard of this movement it's basically downsizing what you own and living in a much smaller space.

Most American homes are about 2600 sq ft, however a typical tiny house is around 400 sq ft.  There are many different designs; some on a foundation while other's are mounted on trailers.  I recently watched a documentary on Netflix called "Tiny: A Story About Living Small."  It's about a young man's journey building his own tiny house as well as short excerpts by others living the tiny house lifestyle.

I've seem some amazing photographs of tiny houses.  Some of the tiny houses have an almost "Tardis" feel, where they seem bigger on the inside.  Those who build tiny houses really learn to creatively take advantage of space.  They use space more efficiently by doing things like installing cabinets or drawers in the stairs or under the stairs.  No space is left unused.  This allows tiny home owners to enjoy many of the common comforts while still having a small, affordable, and manageable space.

You can also get creative with your build.  Not all tiny houses look the same, like tiny versions of lager houses.  Since you are designing on a small scale you can really design the place the way you want.  You can make it as unique as yourself.  Below are some great photos I found online of creative builds.  I'm rather partial to the converted storage container builds.

Who doesn't love a Tree House!
This is a great trailer build.  Looks like it had a lot of great natural lighting too!

I love this house! It comes with a hot tub!!!

This is an interesting twist on the traditional design and it offers so much light!

This is a great container conversion.  These are my favorite!

This may be another shipping container conversion.  So modern looking.

This is an interesting design. It looks like it offers a lot of natural light and probably a great view where it's located!
